ABOUT THE AUTHOR
William Shakespeare was born in April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. He became an actor, playwright, and shareholder in a leading theatrical company known as the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, later renamed the King’s Men.During his career, Shakespeare wrote comedies, tragedies, historical plays, narrative poems, and 154 sonnets. His works are admired for their memorable characters, poetic language, emotional depth, and understanding of human behaviour. Plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello, and King Lear examine ambition, jealousy, loyalty, revenge, and moral conflict. His comedies, including Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, combine romance, humour, mistaken identity, and social observation.Shakespeare spent much of his professional life in London before returning to Stratford-upon-Avon. He died on 23 April 1616. His works have been translated into numerous languages and continue to be read, performed, studied, and adapted worldwide.
