Poul Anderson

Poul William Anderson was born on 25 November 1926 in Bristol, Pennsylvania. He studied physics at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1948. His scientific education strongly influenced his fiction, helping him create believable planets, technologies, and futuristic societies.Anderson began publishing professionally in 1947 and built a writing career lasting more than five decades. He worked across science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, alternate history, and short stories. His best-known works include Tau Zero, Brain Wave, The Broken Sword, The High Crusade, and Three Hearts and Three Lions. He won seven Hugo Awards and three Nebula Awards, received the SFWA Grand Master honour in 1997, and entered the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 2000. He died on 31 July 2001 in Orinda, California.
